New York City and state have joined a coalition of 16 states, the District of Columbia and environmental advocates in a legal challenge to block the U.S. Postal Service from purchasing new gas-powered delivery trucks, accusing the agency of a faulty environmental review that does not capture the true toll of the fleet on the environment.
The three lawsuits, which were filed in two federal courts, charge that the Postal Service violated the National Environmental Policy Act when it signed a deal with Oshkosh Defense for 165,000 gas-fueled delivery trucks over 10 years without considering the environmental impacts of the purchase.
