Yelp closing office in New York, going with 'fully remote workforce'

Yelp is closing its locations in New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. as it embraces remote work, more evidence of Covid-19’s assault on the office market.

The San Francisco-based online review company announced today in a blog post that the three offices will close as of July 29 as it moves ahead with “a fully remote workplace and design the future of remote work at Yelp,” CEO Jeremy Stoppelman wrote.

The company during the pandemic “came to realize that the future of work at Yelp is remote. It’s best for our employees and for our business,” the blog post said.

The move underscores the challenge facing landlords
