A donation from RM, the BTS frontman, is paying for work on the 19th century robe.
The K-pop sensation BTS is known around the world for its high-energy choreography and masses of fervent fans. Now the group’s frontman, Kim Nam-joon, best known as RM, is giving the band a reputation for philanthropy, too, through his art patronage.
His donation of 100 million South Korean won ($69,807), made through the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, is being used to restore a 19th-century Korean bridal gown in red silk satin, called a hwarot (pronounced HUA-ot). (The Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, which handled the donation for the pop star, refused to comment.)
