The sky stretches for miles above, cumulous clouds creating smudged polka dots across the cobalt blue. To get to Holkham Beach – the UK’s answer to The Hamptons and North Norfolk’s much-prized beauty spot – you walk across salt-aged boardwalks, as Little Terns and Oystercatchers soar overhead. At low tide, the sand is impossibly wide (reaching some 500m, in fact) – the waves moving far out of sight – and the beach undulates some 3.5km long, from Burnham Overy Staithe Beach in the west to Wells Beach in the east – trimmed by sand dunes and pine forests.
