Trump orders GSA to sell properties—Mies van der Rohe, Victor Lundy, and Walter Gropius buildings could be impacted

The General Services Administration (GSA) has been ordered to sell off properties it owns and/or leases. The order left many federal employees bewildered, given the Trump administration’s mandate that workers return to their offices and no longer work from home.

The directive came by way of email, the Associated Press reported, when GSA regional managers got messages this month from GSA headquarters in Washington, D.C. to terminate leases at all of its approximately 7,500 federal offices.

Wired reported that GSA has been directed to sell off more than 500 “non-core” buildings held by the federal government. The magazine obtained a list of 1,500 assets split into over 900 “core” items,
