‘The Hard Nut’ dances back to Brooklyn this December

A holiday tradition has returned to New York City for the first time since 2018.

The Mark Morris Dance Group is bringing its modern twist on the “Nutcracker” story, “The Hard Nut,” back to the Brooklyn Academy of Music this month.

With retro-inspired settings, characters and choreography, the show offers a unique take on the classic ballet.

“It’s not done every single year, but we’ve done it frequently over the years. Last time we’ve done it here in New York was 2018. And it’s most exciting for us to do it home at New York for our audiences here,” rehearsal director Elisa Clark said during a rehearsal earlier this week.
