Belmont veteran Irad Ortiz Jr. gave his mount, Mo Donegal, a superb ride for the grueling mile-and-a-half of the Belmont Stakes to take the win in the stretch from the very game filly Nest, who outran the six other putative bad boys of the field, including favorites Rich Strike and We the People, strung out behind her. Derby winner Rich Strike did not figure significantly in the race, finishing a lackluster sixth.
