A 7-year-old girl was shot on Long Island on Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened just before 3 p.m. on Evans Avenue in the Nassau County hamlet of Elmont in the town of Hempstead, police said.
The child was struck in her left arm and was being treated at a hospital, according to officials.
It was unclear what led to the shooting, or if a suspect was in custody.
