City ends school mask mandate and vaccine proof for indoor activities

Mayor Eric Adams on Friday announced the removal of indoor mask mandates in city public schools for K-12 students and the requirement for vaccine proof for indoor activities.

The move, to take effect Monday, was led by declining Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations in the city, as well as increasing rates of vaccination.

Masks will still be required for settings with children under age 5 because they remain ineligible for Covid vaccines. Schools will still be required to maintain prevention protocols, such as increased ventilation, a daily screener to keep symptomatic students at home, and test kit distribution.
