Mayor Eric Adams and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams are clashing over billions.
In his State of the City address, the mayor proposed committing $5 billion to the creation of affordable housing over the next 10 years in the upcoming budget. In her State of the City address, the speaker proposed committing $4 billion to affordable housing in the next year alone. The pair will likely go back and forth for a while before eventually landing on a certain number of billions that they will tout as extremely ambitious and that affordable housing advocates will decry as not enough.
