Pataki won’t pick front-runner in GOP primary

As only the third Republican governor of New York since 1923, George Pataki said he believes he has a pretty good perspective on whether the GOP can finally win back the state this year.

Pataki said the Republican Party’s chances haven’t been better to win the governorship than they are right now, despite overwhelming voter registration odds.

“To win as a Republican in New York, you need to get over 1 million Democrats to say they want change and they’re willing to give you a chance,” he said told Crain’s. “That doesn’t happen very often, but I think the opportunity is there this year.”
