The mayor vowed to cut red tape for business. Here’s where he can start

During Mayor Eric Adam’s first week in office, he announced he would immediately start making it easier for companies to do business in the city.

His announcement came with an executive order giving city agencies three months to identify the 25 violations that result in the greatest number of summonses and fines for businesses.

“We have used our agencies to turn the American Dream into a nightmare,” Adams said. “We’re not going to use this system to fine you to put money in our coffers. We have so many violations on the books that are no longer necessary.”

The city projected about $1.1 billion annually in fines
