Visitors To Florence Can Now See These Extraordinary Ancient Mosaics Up Close

Precious mosaics in Florence are undergoing restoration. But instead of being sealed off from visitors, they are now accessible up close.

The 800-year-old mosaics that decorate Florence’s famous Baptistery are being repaired for the first time in more than 100 years.

A novel mushroom-shaped scaffold is allowing tourists to continue visiting the artwork – and see it from a unique perspective.

Visitors can climb the scaffold to see the 13th-century mosaic – made up of more than 10 million tiles – close-up.
