American Express Platinum: Valuable benefits and an offer as high as 175,000 bonus points

American Express’ flagship American Express Platinum Card® is firmly positioned as one of the top premium travel rewards cards on the market.

With an $895 annual fee (see rates and fees), the Platinum delivers lounge access, hotel elite status, extensive statement credits and strong earning rates on flights and hotels.

Combined with a potentially valuable welcome offer for new applicants, the Platinum continues to offer exceptional rewards and travel perks for those who can maximize its benefits.

Here’s a closer look at the current offer and what you’ll get with the Amex Platinum.

    Amex Platinum welcome offer

American Express takes a different approach to welcome offers for the Platinum compared to some of its other cards: Applicants must submit an application to see their personalized welcome offer, which is displayed before they accept and complete the process.

New Amex Platinum applicants can find out their offer and see if they’re eligible for as high as 175,000 bonus points after spending $12,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer.

The exact offer will be shown after you submit the application, with the spending requirement and time frame generally consistent across offers.

Viewing your personalized welcome offer typically won’t affect your credit score because American Express generally performs a soft credit check during the initial application process.

If you’re happy with the welcome offer and accept, American Express may perform a hard inquiry, although existing cardmembers are at times approved using information already on file.

You can decline to proceed if you want to wait or try to find a higher offer.

Since Amex has a one-bonus-per-lifetime restriction, it’s worth trying to receive the highest personalized offer you’re eligible for before applying. Under this rule, you generally won’t be eligible to earn another welcome offer on a particular Amex card if you’ve earned one on that card in the past — even if you haven’t held the card for many years.

What is the Amex Platinum’s welcome offer worth?

That welcome bonus is worth up to $3,500, according to TPG’s August 2026 valuations. This personalized welcome offer structure is the standard application process for the Amex Platinum.

In order to get maximum value from this welcome offer, you’ll want to transfer your points to Amex’s top partners, including Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France-KLM Flying Blue and ANA Mileage Club.

How to get the highest offer for the Amex Platinum

While receiving the highest possible welcome offer for the Amex Platinum isn’t guaranteed, you may be able to improve your chances by opting in to receive targeted offers via email or mail.
