The Rainwater Wall: A Space-Saving Water Harvesting Tank

In many parts of the world, people harvest rainwater. In rural America, where I live, you’ll see people using two solutions. The first is a rain barrel.Rain barrels are something you permanently site: Once they’re at their 55-gallon capacity, they weigh around 450 lbs, so you’re not moving them. Another solution is Industrial Bulk Containers, or IBCs. Your typical 275-gallon IBC holds five times as much water as a rain barrel. They’re on palettes, so if you’ve got a tractor with pallet forks, you can move them around the property.Occasionally you see people getting creative with these. If you live in a city, or a space-tight non-rural environment, you may not have the space for either a rain barrel or an IBC. Hence Turkish company Harves Technology developed this Rainwater Wall, which stores nearly as much as an IBC—264 gallons, or 1,000 liters—in a slimmer footprint. The units are meant to line walls or fences, and measure just 89″ x 69″ x 12″ (225 x 175 x 30cm). The units are modular; you can daisy-chain together as many of these as you have the space for. Unfortunately the company doesn’t publish prices.
