Uncle Ben’s Remedy Embraces Raw Country on Garage Country

Western New York-based country band Uncle Ben’s Remedy released their new album Garage Country on Oct 16. The ten-track album explores the sound of raw country music through unique storytelling that dives into their small-town roots.

Garage Country really sounds like pure raw country music. The album’s songs create the atmosphere of playing in a bar or small venue through their production. The piano on a lot of the tracks sounds like it came right out of a saloon. And the more intimate songs – “Everything (Strawberry Wine)” – feel like the kind of song you’d play to a small crowd.

The raw country sound was absolutely intentional and reflected in the album’s title, Garage Country. “I loved this term because it spoke to me about where all good music comes from: a few people in a room, maybe a garage, barn, or basement, being brave enough to push their emotions out into song.”

Community is a major part of country music, and that’s reflected in the sound of this album. A lot of the songs feel like they were meant to be played live for people to hear together. So many modern-day albums feel like they are trying to reach algorithms rather than people, so hearing something raw and emotional is really refreshing.

Garage Country is the seventh full-length album by Uncle Ben’s Remedy. The band released their debut album Not Far From the Tree in 2016 and it was a hit. The band quickly sold out the first 2,500 copies out of a converted school bus as they played in every small town they could find.
