Design Help Needed: An Easier, But Uglier, Automatic Gate Opener

I’ve recently done construction drawings for a design/build firm for motorized residential gates. A real hassle with these are the automatic openers. The last one I did was a hydraulic unit that was buried in the ground. Installation involved busting through existing concrete to install the unit, then cutting trenches through the concrete for drainage and running the electrical.An easier-to-install solution would be this Pivo Robô, an automatic gate opener from Brazilian automation company Garen. It’s like a tiny droid that opens and closes the dates. Diminutive though it is, it can handle gates weighing up to 1,200 kg (2,646 lbs).Note the parallelogram mechanism for dealing with the graded surface:To be clear, none of the ritzy clients who order driveway gates would tolerate this, aesthetically speaking. But in the hands of a good industrial designer, perhaps something more attractive could be created. (Or quirky. I’d love to see a little R2-D2, or maybe a turtle.)
