Karina Rykman is sharing her new single “Late Checkout” from her upcoming album of the same name. The second single from the album, the single is a fun pop-rock song with some funky elements and carefree lyrics.
The New York City singer has been on the rise since 2023. Rykman’s debut LP, Joyride, made waves across the music world almost immediately. At a young age, she surrounded herself with music at a young age, playing with numerous bands and attending local shows. With her studio catalogue continuing to grow, she has been able to work with the likes of Phish, My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthew’s Band, and more.
“Late Checkout” has a funky sound with an electric riff in the background that later transitions into a guitar solo to end the song. The lyrics are fun and silly, describing what sounds like the aftermath of a wild night that results in a late checkout from a hotel.
A music video accompanied the release of the single, featuring Rykman herself. Throughout the video, she walks around the hotel in a robe, gets up to shenanigans with her friends, and even smashes her face into a cake. At the end, she gets off on the wrong floor, but is clearly unbothered.
Rykman shared that “Late Checkout” is about making the most when you’re having a good time. “This song came from a jam on a hot summer day with Adam November and Chris Corsico, and was expounded upon afterward with Gabe Monro.” She shares. “The thing I love the most about this song is how much it sounds like the three of us. The title says it all: enamored with the journey, not concerned with the destination – just joyfully present in time and space.”
Although it is only Rykman’s sophomore album, it is a highly anticipated release following the success of Joyride. The album is set to release on September 25 and will feature 12 tracks including singles “Late Checkout” and “Easy Rider.”
Rykman will also be going on tour, set to kick off in July. The tour will run through to December, with some festival appearances along the way. Her biggest tour to date, she will be joined by her band featuring Adam November and Chris Corisco, as well as some new faces.
