Ithaca’s Cayuga Chamber Orchestra will perform “Fantasies,” a concert featuring four exceptional pieces of classical music, on Saturday, Oct. 10. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Ithaca College’s Ford Hall. Admission is on a sliding scale or “pay-what-you-can” basis.
Conductor Guillaume Pirard will lead the orchestra in an exciting evening of music. First, Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture will open the program on a traditional note. Next, accomplished mandolin player Jacob Jolliff will join the orchestra for Jessie Jones’s Mandolin Concerto, “Tunebook.”
Jones and Jolliff have collaborated in the past, including performing at bluegrass festivals together. Jolliff explained that bluegrass-style instrumental music comes naturally to him, which makes Jones’s innovative blend of bluegrass and classical music styles in “Tunebook” a perfect fit for him.
Jolliff studied his craft at The Berklee College of Music. Later, he toured nationally as part of the band Joy Kills Sorrow. Now, his focus is The Jacob Jolliff Band, which showcases Jolliff’s instrumental and vocal compositions.
After Jolliff’s performance, the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra will continue the program with founder Karel Husa’s “Fantasies,” the eponym of the concert. The concert will close with Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony.
Oct. 10’s event will also include a Pre-Concert Chat with Maestro Pirard and Jacob Jolliff. This talk will begin at 6:30 p.m., one hour before the music starts.
